Asked about this issue in the House of Commons, Starmer said that the British goverment is considering penalizing Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir for their “abhorrent remarks” about the conflict in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

“The humanitarian situation in Gaza is dire. Israel must take all possible measures to avoid further civilian casualties, facilitate the delivery of aid to Gaza, and allow United Nations humanitarian partners to operate effectively,” the British Prime Minister stated.

Recently, the far-right Israeli ministers advocated for the resettlement of Palestinians outside the Gaza Strip, which would then come under Israeli control. They also called for the Israeli military to shoot women and children. Smotrich and Ben-Gvir even called for blocking the entry of fuel, food, and humanitarian aid to the occupied Palestinian territories.

The text reads: “Urgent: Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich warns: ‘I say clearly that the Jewish state will include Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon. Istanbul will soon become the Jewish capital. All that remains is to wait for the surprise’.”

On Tuesday, former British Prime Minister and former Foreign Secretary David Cameron explained that he had considered sanctioning these two individuals as a way to “put pressure” on the Israeli government to act in accordance with international law.

Additionally, the United Kingdom, France, and Algeria on Wednesday called for an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council to address Israel’s obstruction of humanitarian aid entering northern Gaza.

British Foreign Secretary David Lammy urged Israel to “ensure that civilians are protected and that routes are opened to allow the delivery of vital aid.”
